AIS world Vice President laments shortage of personnel
|The world Vice president of the International Federation of Aeronautical Information Management (IFAIMA), Alhaji Kabiru Yahaya Gusau has called for the engagement of more personnel into the Aeronautical Information Management in oder to boost its operations.Speaking at the occasion marking the World Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Day in Lagos, Gusau said the organization lacked personnel as a result of aging workforce in the system.He said the shortage of personnel has created a lot of vacuum that needed to be addressed in order to enable them meet the changes in the system as it has transformed from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management (AIM)
Gusau also called for the licensing of personnel of AIS adding, that licensing them will enable them take responsibility of any action which would be traced to them while discharging their duties.
According to Gusau, AIS automation will lay to rest the issue of sending Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) by paper but it will be done by electronic stressing, that the total radar coverage of Nigeria has greatly impacted on the Airspace but expressed the hope that with automation on board, the issues associated with radio communications will be a thing of the past.
He appealed to the Federal Government to ensure the implementation of the AIS automation as it has been approved in the budget to ensure safer skies.
AIS is the backbone of Air traffic in Nigeria ensuring the take off and landing of aircraft and issues Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) and provides routing through chart for aircraft.
