Breaking: Sheriff disowns congratulatory message to Makarfi
Sacked chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Senator Modu Sheriff has dissociated himself from a congratulatory message to the authentic chairman of the party Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Some newspapers had yesterday quoted Sheriff 24 hours after the Supreme Court judgment that nullified his chairmanship, to have congratulated the lawfully recognised Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Makarfi, for his victory.
In a short statement posted on Sheriff’s twitter handle, the former Borno State governor said: “The Supreme Court has spoken. I congratulate Senator Makarfi. We must all put our hands together to channel a new course for the PDP.
“Moving forward, we must embrace true reconciliation, so as to be united as a formidable option to send the APC packing in 2019. This is the time to build the PDP and to focus on the future, which includes reclaiming power from the APC.”
However the last may not have been heard of the leadership tussle following the recognition of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as the governing organ of the party. The judgment which sacked the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was hailed as victory for democracy by prominent members of the party including the Immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Few hours after the apex court ruling, reports in the traditional media and social media platforms had indicated that Senator Sheriff had on his Twitter Handle, congratulated Makarfi, pledging to work with him in the interest of the party. However, the former Borno State Governor has dissociated himself from the report even as he described the said congratulatory message as fake.
