Buhari Media Group assumes role of a political party, tackles PDP

The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) Monday opted to help the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) move against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its criticisms of the President’s claims of achievements in his 2017 Easter message to Nigerians.

The Group also dismissed insinuations that President Muhammadu Buhari is intolerant of critics and that the alleged behaviour was due to his military background.

The Coordinator of the Group, Malam Muhammad Labbo today in Abuja explained that the President has shocked even his critics “with an amazing tolerance in the face of extreme provocations caused by unprintable personal attacks.”

He dismissed PDP’s faulting of Buhari’s claims to having met the expectations of Nigerias, stressing that the opposition party performed woefully while in office.

Labbo said in the statement that contrary to accusations of President Buhari’s dictatorial disposition, no critic of his government, his policies as well as those who insulted him personally on social and traditional media have been arrested or harassed as against what happened in the previous dispensation when a Governor in the North East was caused to be impeached for writing a critical letter against the then President.

Similarly, Labbo said that President Buhari had shown a “thick skin’’ despite cases of deliberate and malicious personal attacks by political opponents, adding that not once did the President go after anybody for criticizing him.

The Coordinator explained that the President had never tagged any Party member as an enemy because the person publicly criticized his policies.

Reacting to the controversial memo written to the President by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Labbo said the President is too busy to be distracted by the a six month old letter.

Furthermore, he observed that most of the issues raised in the memo were already being implemented by the government.

As a democrat, President Buhari would continue to accommodate dissent, adding that the President had not and would never use the party machinery to fight any perceived critic.

Labbo also said that the President is so focused on his change agenda and how to make life better for Nigerians that he would not allow himself to be distracted by the load of negativites being churned out by critics.

“Unhealthy cynicism that constantly focuses on discrediting and playing down the achievements of the Buhari administration is not what our democracy desires, just as praying for the government to fail is not desirable,’’ Labbo said.
