Cabinet reshuffle imminent as Buhari sends names to Senate for confirmation
By Titus Agbo
President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter requesting screening and confirmation of the two ministerial nominees was read by President of the Senate Bukola Saraki at Wednesday’s plenary.
The development strengthened the speculation over a likely cabinet reshuffle on the heels of the second anniversary of the Buhari administration which comes up in May.
In the letter to the Senate, President Buhari nominated Professor Stephen Ocheni from Kogi State and Suleiman Hassan from Gombe State to fill the vacant ministerial positions in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Ocheni if confirmed will replace the late Minister of State for Labour, Mr. James Ocholi who died last year in a car crash while Suleiman Hassan is expected to replace the former Minister for Environment Ms Amina Mohammed who now serves as the United Nations deputy Secretary General.
Buhari’s letter is coming to the Senate on the day the upper legislative chamber suspended Ali Ndume for raising allegations that ridiculed the Senate and barely 24 hours after the lawmakers suspended the confirmation of the 27 persons nominated as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
