FG meets with striking Resident Doctors

Federal Government team is meeting with the leadership of resident doctors to end the on-going strike embarked by the union.
The government team comprises the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of State in the ministry, Prof. Stephen Ocheni, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Minister of State for Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire.
Also among the government team are the Permanent Secretary from the Office of Head of Service and the Chairman Salaries and Wages Commission Chief Richard Egbule.
The Executive officers of National Association of Resident Doctors and those of the Medical Association of Nigeria and the Chairman of Committee of Chief Medical Directors of Teaching Hospitals, Prof.. Thomas Agan are representing association.
Before the meeting entered into a closed-door, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Ngige accused NARD of breaching the Memorandum of Understanding that was entered into last week which was contrary to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and section 18 Trade Dispute Act.
But the National President of NMA, Dr. Mike Ogirima said that the doctors were in the meeting to listen to the government team.
He said, “We have listened to you that is why we are here. We hope that the trust that wasn’t there when the MoU was signed will be there now and there are evidences of implementations of the agreement.”
