King A.J Turner, Nnamani make case for effective cost management in anti-corruption fight
Many prominent Nigerians including the Sultan of Sokoto Sa’adu Abubakar, former senate president Mr. Ken Nnamani and King Amallate J. Turner on Monday made a case for for the deployment of effective cost management system as a major ingredient required in the strengthening of the war against corruption.
They were of the opinion, that Nigeria must adopt cost management and also checks and balances in the expenses of governance.
The views were canvassed at the launch of a Book entitled “Managing Cost ” in Abuja. The book was authored by prominent Niger Delta Traditional leader, King Amallate J. Turner,
In his remarks at the event, King Turner posited that any government that is serious about fighting corruption should adopt cost management in governance.
He frowned at a situation where the expenses of government are not curtailed even as the nation keep talking about managing and cutting cost, against the backdrop of falling oil price. Stressing that oil remains a major source of income in this country, Turner maintained that the nation “cannot in clear conscience talk about fighting corruption when there is no proper measure for effective cost management.”
He said further that “there is a need for every state government to realise that at this point in time with the economic downturn, hardship and recession, they cannot continue with their usual expensive lifestyles”, adding that “if they are serious about serving the masses they have to be serious about cost cutting and finance management.”
He also emphasised that government institutions should take advantage of the benefits of cost management system to improve on government spending and project implementation.
To save the country from being a perpetual debtor society, King Turner said the application of an effective Cost Management system, can ensure that we save a lot by effectively planning and controlling cost of governance in the country.
