Niger Delta youths to form groups to operate modular refineries of 1000 barrels
The Federal Government is to organise the youths of the Niger Delta now engaged in illegal refining of crude into consortia as a means of operationalising the proposed modular refineries..
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru who made this known Friday in Abuja while throwing some light on the modular refineries the Federal Government is planning for the Niger Delta, stressed that each consortium will refine 1000 barrels of crude daily.
Maikanti who spoke at the 53rd International Conference and Exhibition of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society(NMGS) stated that the aim was to transform illegal refineries in the zone into legal entities for proper integration of the youth in the region.
According to him, getting the youth to form consortia to set up 1000 barrels per day modular refineries would get them off criminality and create jobs.
The GMD also threw more light on the Corporation’s decision to diversify into the power sector, adding that it was already working on a project to generate four Megawatts (4000MW) of electricity while also exploring the possibility of investing in the transmission segment of the power sector.
