NSCDC arrest two ‘fetish’ Pastors in Ondo
Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command have arrested two self-acclaimed clergymen for defrauding and sexually abusing innocent worshipers in their respective churches.
Parading the Clerics before reporters in Akure, its Commandant, Idebo Awilli Pedro said they were arrested after some church members reported the criminal activities of the duo and were later arrested.
The ‘self-acclaimed’ Pastors, Dada Babaroti and Clement Fabeku according to NSCDC boss had been extorting the unsuspecting worshipers by using fetish means.
The NSCDC boss said that Fabeku operates the Truth and Life Bible Church located in Ilorin, Kwara state capital while Babaroti is the General Overseer of the Blood of Jesus Christ Church, in Idanre.
He said some fetish items used in swindling the victims were recovered from the two suspects.
According to him, the criminal activities of the culprits mostly in using fetish means forced some church members to report the duo to the NSCDC in Akure.
He said; “They also obtained various sums of money running into millions of Naira from members of their congregations under false pretence.
“Section 3 (1) G expressly empowers the Corps to monitor the activities of religious bodies and trade associations.
“We use this opportunity to warn fake clergymen and women to urgently relocate from the state or face prosecution”.
He said the command has begun a clamp down on fraudsters in the state and would team up other sister agencies in ensuring criminals are prosecuted.
One of the suspects, Babaroti confirmed to have defrauded church members and abusing women sexually using fetish means.
He added that people used to come to him for different kind of miracles, and that he decided to go fetish in order to provide solutions to some of their problems.
