PDP now majority in the Senate with 64 members as 15 APC Senators defect
Fifteen All Progressive Congress, (APC) Senators this morning defected to the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP).
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, also announced that he too was leaving the ruling party but did not indicate which party he would be heading.
It is however clear that he would be returning to the PDP since all those who dumped APC today who happened to be his ally went to PDP.
Senator Saraki just like a replay of what happened in June 2015 when he outwitted his party to assume the leadership of the upper chambers; the Senate President escaped the ambush of the police to preside over the plenary this morning.
This has turned against the ruling party which has suddenly become the minority with 45 senators while PDP now has 64.
A rundown of the list of the decamped APC senators include, Tejuoso, Shaaba, Barnabas Gemade, Dino Melaye, Shittu, Rafiu, Shitu Ubali, Isa Misau, Hunkuyi, Monsurat, Danbaba, Nafada, Nazif, Kwakwanso and Nyako.
With this development the Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has now become the Majority leader also the Minority Whip.
Meanwhile the Senate has adjourned plenary till September 26, 2018.
