Police pick up Senator Omo-Agege, his two thugs
—–NASS directs IGP, DG DSS to recover mace, Senator for treason trial
The police have arrested Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for his alleged invasion of the Senate with armed thugs and allegedly seizing the mace.
Also two members of the thugs that came into the National Assembly with him have equally been picked by the security agents.
Meanwhile the leadership of the legislative arm has directed the Inspector-General of the Police and his Directorate of State Security counterpart to ensure that fleeing criminals and the stolen mace are tracked with immediate effect.
Senator Omo-Agege was earlier suspended by the Senate for his opposition to the Senate’s recently passed order of election which in his press conference he accused his colleagues of basically targeting President Mohammadu Buhari .
He had also taken the Senate to court over the matter even though he later tendered apology on the floor of the house over his comments on the bill.
The Senate had equally frowned at his setting up of a senate support group for the president second term bid.
The committee that handled his matter had recommended that he be suspended for 180 legislative days but it was later reduced at the plenary to 90 days if he would withdraw the case he instituted against the Senate on the bill at the court and disband the Buhari support group.
The Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki had while appealing to his colleagues for a reduction oft he suspension by 50% of the recommended days further promised that his case could still be visited after he must have complied with conditions.
However the situation on the ground now has superseded the issue of suspension as observers believe that what he , 9Ovie Omo-Agege has done amounted to a coup against an arm of government and that he could possibly face treason charge.
