Rivers East Senatorial District: Sekibo out Uchendu in
Frantic moves by Senator George Thompson Sekibo to upturn the judgement of the Appeal Tribunal which had earlier sacked him has hit the rocks as the Court of Appeal in Abuja today dismissed his appeal.
He had gone the Appeal court to challenge the decision of the Rivers State National and State Elections Petitions tribunal which sat in Abuja and nullified his election to the Senate.
The tribunal in June 2017 declared Mr. Andrew Uchendu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the duly elected senator for Rivers East Senatorial District.
Justice Adamu Jauro who read the judgement held that the petition filed by the ousted Senator lacked merit and substance and consequently dismissed it.
Meanwhile, in another judgment delivered by Justice Habeeb Adewale Abiru, the Appellate Court upheld the election of Senator Magnus Abe of Rivers South East.
The appeal brought against Abe by Mr. Oloka Johnson Nwogu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was dismissed for being baseless and lacking in merit.
