Sani Bako, an exceptional diplomat takes a bow in style
Alhaji Sani Bako, The Jakkada
Alhaji Sani Bako was an exceptional Nigerian Diplomat. He is highly patriotic and detribalised. He recently took a bow after completing the mandatory thirty five years in service. Bako rose to the position of a director in Foreign Service before his meritorious exit in February this year.
During his career, he served in several countries in Africa, Europe and Asia. His last foreign postings were in Asian bloc. He had the privilege of opening the Nigerian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2007 as the Charge D’ Affaires. He was again returned to Asia in 2014 as the Head of Political Section before he was later moved to head the Economic Section in our Embassy in Beijing, China.
While serving as the head of the Economic Desk, he organized an economic forum that attracted over five hundred participants during the visit of the president and that opened the floodgate to Chinese investors into the country.
While in those two countries he did so much in his usual patriotic style to market the country extensively to business communities in both countries. Those efforts yielded results as quite a number of Vietnamese and Chinese companies made in-roads into the Nigerian business space collaborating with some states and Nigerians in agriculture, industry and construction.
An alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Alhaji Sani is also a holder of the National Honour, Member of the Federal Republic, (MFR) conferred on him by the Obasanjo regime.
A native of Malufasi in Katsina State, this exceptional diplomat is at home in any part of the country because of his ability to connect and bond easily. In fact he could be best described as a bridge builder.
He is also well respected and regarded at home. This was demonstrated recently when his well revered traditional ruler, Justice Mamman Nasir, the Galadiman Katsina and a former President of the Federal Court of Appeal turbaned him “Jakkada” (The Ambassador of his people) on May 13, 2018. The ceremony attracted guests from far and near as friends and well-wishers thronged the ancient city to honour him.
