Tears of joy in Udah as Rep lifts constituents at Christmas
Hon. Sir Dennis Agbo addressing his constituents during the event.
The mood was right, the atmosphere festive and exciting as the people of Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Consistency gathered in great multitude at the large expanse premises of the Udah community’s Anglican Church Cathedral on 23rd December 2017 to celebrate their representative, Honourable Dennis Agbo for quality representation in the National Assembly.
The essence was to mark his first two years in office which also entailed the commissioning of the various projects he initiated and completed within the two years in office. And beyond the commissioning of projects covering several aspects of vital amenities, Honourable Agbo used the occasion to celebrate Christmas for his constituents in grand style.
There were empowerment items like tricycles, motor cycles, generators, grinding and sewing machines procured by the celebrant for distribution to his people. There were also bags of rice and other food items trucked in from Abakaliki and other parts of the east for constituents to mark the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The occasion was also not devoid of the usual drumming and dancing that are associated with its type as different cultural groups in their displays entertained the crowd which trooped out in their hundreds.
With the shouts of “integrity speaks”, the campaign slogan Honourable was known for right from the of his race to the Federal House roaring at intervals there was no doubt that his people eulogise him. An elderly constituent was so moved by what he saw that he exclaimed, “Integrity in action”. Another echoed, “ this is continuity personified” referring to the days of the current Governor of the State, Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who handed over the mantle to Honourable Agbo in 2015 after three unbroken tenures.
The occasion had began at 10 A.M in the morning with a thanksgiving service officiated by Aloysius Agbo Bishop of Anglican Communion Nsukka. He gave glory to the Almighty God who according to him had been there for him all the way. He acknowledged that God provided him the wisdom with which he has run the office, managed the relationship and as well moderated interests in the constituency.
Agbo also used the occasion to pay glowing tributes to his predecessor, Governor Ugwuanyi who he described as a huge pillar of supports. “His counsel and guidance have been my beacon of light”. He said adding that his prompt intervention at every critical juncture, particularly in amicable resolution of his pre-election ligations helped him to devote full attention to legislatives duties and record the modest achievements being celebrated
The church service was followed by the commissioning of the various projects executed by him in the two local governments. The projects include, five classroom block at Community Secondary School, (CSS) Udah, Modern examination hall of five hundred students’ seating capacity at Community Secondary School,(CSS) Aguibeje, a story building at Technical School, Igugu and electricity projects at Imilike Etiti and Ezodo to Ugbaike. Also commissioned were three-holder poultry and vitamin fortified cassava farms located in the two state constituencies. He had also within the first two years awarded scholarships to some constituents up to tertiary level. He equally announced further award of scholarships to any constituents who secure admissions to study medicine in any of the Federal Universities.
It was indeed a day of true account of stewardship to the people of the constituency. The integrity women groups from the two local governments of the Constituency added glamour to the occasion with their orange blouse to match double-wrapper ankara. Their intermittent eulogies were inspiring. The traditional institution was not left out as all the chiefs of all the autonomous communities came in their regalia.
The occasion was climaxed with the distribution of empowerment items and food stuffs to constituents. The joy that radiated all through the occasion which continued till late evening knew no bounds. Most of the recipients of the items could not hold back tears of joy. To them it was like dream as they never expected such gestures at this time of severe economic hardship in the country. To Blessing Ngozi Adikwu, who was given a motorbike “it was a great shock to me, I never expected it. In short am overwhelmed with joy that was why I had to cry” she said. Many of them shared same feelings.
People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) stalwarts who spoke at the occasion poured a lot of encomiums on the legislator for his philanthropic dispositions since he assumed office. They also described him as grassroots politician always concerned with the welfare of the ordinary people. The Chairman of PDP in Igboeze North Local Government, Honourable Alex Urama noted that he had always known that he would make a perfect replacement for Governor Ugwuanyi. “He has religiously followed the footsteps of his predecessor and I am happy he has not failed our people.” He said. His counterpart in Udenu, Honourable Sir Emma Chima, shared similar views. He described Rep Agbo as a man of uncommon attributes and disposition.
Honourable Agbo was equally appreciative of his people’s support and trust in him stressing that their generous show of supports and solidarity have compelled him to dedicate this stage of his life to serving them with INTERGRITY.
